Please attach this flyer to your food bag and place your donation of non-perishable food items outside your front door in a visible location by 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 13, 2010. Most needed items include: Beans with or without Pork; Macaroni and Cheese or pasta and sauce; Canned fish or meat; Peanut Butter; Powdered milk; Soup; Canned fruits or vegetables. Ethnic foods are welcome.

A member of Guiding will collect your donation between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

If your donation has not been collected by 2:00 p.m., please take it to the nearest Edmonton fire hall with this flyer attached or you may call us at (780) 904-9889. (In Fort Saskatchewan drop off at Sobeys.)

Hike for Plenty 2009

The 2009 Hike For Plenty went well with the Food Bank reporting 13 506 lbs collected. Guiding in Clearwater collected an additional 1536 lbs and two reports of food taken to Fire Halls totalled approximately 160lbs.

This year we ordered and distributed 16 000 flyers. Crest orders suggest that 800 girls, leaders and adults took part in the Saturday door-to-door food collection.

This year the Food Bank asked us to amalgamate our pick up points so fewer trucks were used, this made it difficult to report totals for specific Divisions but otherwise the amalgamation went well.

Betty Gemmell Division was unable to secure the use of a community drop off centre without a rental payment, so food they collected was taken directly to the Food Bank. Their Rep reported that this did not work for them; the number of girl participants was down as was the amount of food collected.

Totals for the drop - off locations were:

  • Location #1 Edmonton's Food Bank - 90 kg (198 lbs)
  • Location #2 Millwoods Town Centre - 2,295 kg (5060lbs)
  • Location #3 Archbishop Oscar Romero - 1,937 kg (4270lbs)
  • Location #4 McClure United Church - 1,338 kg (2950lbs)

A cheque $1700 was also handed to the Edmonton Food Bank; this was collected by the Ismaili Guiding District as part of their Hike For Plenty efforts.  So far $464.17 has been handed in to the Food Bank in other Hike donations.

Silver Birch 2008 Hike For Plenty collected 4,644 lbs and $100 cash.

Thank you to everyone who participated; the Reps for their determination to make this event a success, the staff and volunteers of the Edmonton Food Bank and the girls and leaders who went door to door delivering flyers and collecting the food donations. Well Done Everyone!
