   History

On February 22 all members of WAGGGS, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, celebrate "Thinking Day," the joint birthday of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell.  On that day we think about our sister Guides all over the world.

Robert Baden-Powell was born on February 22, 1857, in England.  He wrote a book called "Scouting for Boys," and later founded the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides.  Lord Baden-Powell asked his sister Agnes Baden-Powell to take charge of Girl Guides.

In 1912 Lord Baden-Powell married Olave St. Claire Soames.  She became involved in the Girl Guide movement and later became the World Chief Guide.  After her husband's death in 1941, Lady Baden-Powell continued to promote Guiding and Scouting.

   World Centres
The four WAGGGS World Centres are available for Girl Guide/Girl Scout members to visit and participate in programs or events.

There are four World Centres:

Pax Lodge - London, England
Our Chalet - Adelboden, Switzerland
Sangam - Pune, India
Our Cabaña  - Cuernavaca, Mexico

You can find out more about the history of the four World Centres by going to the Girl Guides of Canada website.

   Canadian World Friendship Fund
The proceeds collected for Thinking Day will be donated to the Canadian World Friendship Fund (CWFF).  This fund helps pay for international travel for girl and adult members, mutual aid for world projects, aid in times of disaster, and to help fund the World Centres.
