Commissioner’s Dime’s for CWFF Challenge

Belonging to a the worldwide organization known as World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) makes Edmonton Area Girls part of something much larger. Each year we raise and donate money to the Canadian World Friendship Fund (CWFF).  This fund is used to help with projects around the world and supports members traveling internationally. This year we are trying to raise more money and have a little fun doing it.

What to do:

Start collecting dimes. Challenge your members in different ways to collect them. Maybe 1 dime for every year old they are, or 1 for every television or cell phone in their house, be creative! Then let the creativity happen. Stack them, count them, and make a picture with them. Show off how many your group collected!

Then what happens:

Take some photos! Show us what you have collect. Tell us how much you have collected and bring the donation to Edmonton Area to be forwarded on to the CWFF. Please fill out the bottom portion of the attached form and submit it Ilena (with your photos) at ilena@guidesedmonton.ab.ca by FEBRUARY 21, 2018 to be entered into the draw. There will be prizes awarded for total money collected per member as well as most creative displays. Winners will be announced at Light the Bridge on February 22, 2018.

February 22nd 2018 from 6:30 PM – 8:00 pM

Come celebrate Thinking day 2018 with Edmonton Area as we illuminate Guiding with a glow in the dark parade. Walk over the new Walterdale Bridge while the High-Level Bridge is lit up with the Colours of Guiding. We encourage your unit to come up with a creative way to glow for the parade and the following dance party. Flags, light up costumes, flashlights, glow sticks, lanterns are all encouraged.

Our parade will begin at the Telus Field parking lot and walk across Walterdale Bridge to Kinsmen Park, approximately 2km to enjoy the Guiding colours on the High-Level Bridge, Music and Fireworks. Arrive by 6:30 pm, event ends at 8:00 pm. Units and Individual Guiders are welcome to attend. Please come wearing Girl Guides of Canada Uniform (scarf or sash over your jacket). Sign up by submitting the registration form.

Please consult with your districts and neighbouring units to arrange shared busing as parking is very limited. Girls will be outside for the entirety of the event, so please dress for the weather.
There is no cost to attend this event. All registered participants will receive a commemorative crest sent out in April to districts.
We need many volunteers to help make this event safe and memorable. If you’re interested in
volunteering please let us know!
