Safe Guide 2016

Safe Guide 2016 is now posted on the National website. There are significant changes that you will want to familiarize yourself with while you plan your activities. As of September 1, 2016 all activities must be planned based on the July 2016 version of Safe Guide. Please note that the SG.1 and SG.4 must now be submitted with the SG.3 for all yellow activities.

To access the full manual (click here), an explanation of changes, and other helpful Safe Guide resources is available on the National GGC website.

Are you planning a camp/sleepover/event? Don’t forget to get your paperwork in on time. Remember, for yellow activities, all paperwork must be received by the assessor 14 days prior to the first day of the event. It is wise to give yourself a few extra days to be sure you have enough lead time and that you are considering weekends as well. You don’t want to have your camp or event denied and disappoint the girls by missing this firm deadline.

How to Acquire Safe Guide Training

Safe Guide training is a mandatory element in your journey to becoming a leader. This important training taken by members at every level of Guiding helps us as an organization ensure that activities are carefully planned to ensure the safety of girls and leaders alike.

You have a few options for acquiring Safe Guide training:

  1. You can participate in a “live” training with one of our Edmonton Area Trainers. Watch the Training page (click here) on this website for Safe Guide training dates.
  2. You can participate in a phone training (which also includes computer use). Watch the email newsletter from Alberta Council entitled “ANY Guide News” for phone training dates.
  3. You can take it online through the Girl Guides E-learning Library. Click here for the webpage.

The live and phone sessions are offered throughout the year, with a brief break in the summer months. Online training is available anytime that is convenient for you.
