Welcome to Gofer Express!!

This is a bi-weekly information update for all adult members in Edmonton who have an email address in iMIS. If you know Guiders who do not have email access, please pass this information along.



Thank you to everyone who attended this past Saturday’s Girls First Trainings.  As a reminder, additional trainings are coming up later this month. 

June 11th and June 19th - Basement of Alberta Guide House  7:00pm-9:00pm

There is no charge for these trainings but you must pre-register.  Registration deadlines are the Friday before the training.  To register please call (780 451 2263) or email Courtney at the Edmonton Area Office.  Please include which branch you are registering for in your email and your imis number if you know it.


EDMONTON ESKIMOS GAME & SLEEPOVER  Registration deadline: June 30th 

Join Edmonton Area for Eskimos Game Night! Enjoy the Labour Day rematch against the Calgary Stampeders, followed by a sleepover right on the field! MEMBER ONLY EVENT

Date: September 8th, 2018
Time: Gear drop-off 3:30pm-4:00pm at the field.

The Edmonton Girl Guides have been accepted to walk in the Edmonton Pride Parade this year! The theme this year is Full Spectrum Pride.

Guiding is open to and supports all women and girls! Please join us as we support our LGBTQ2S+ community within Guiding, and within all of Edmonton!

The first two phases of registration have begun.  Many units are filling up fast; Guiders please continue to check your rosters to monitor your unit size and when you are full.

We are excited to share that a brand new Link unit has opened up in Edmonton! Being a member of a Link unit will allow members to connect with each other to work on the Link program, develop friendships, and of course have fun! If you would like to join the unit in Edmonton please email  For further information on Link and how to get involved please



We are looking for Casino volunteers for the Edmonton Area Girl Guide casino. The dates are Aug 15th & 16th 2018 (Wed. & Thur.), at Yellowhead Casino (12464-153rd St.). Information form.  Please complete a Casino Volunteer Booking Form and forward it to Sandy. If you would like a particular day or shift please indicate this on your form. Sandy will try to accommodate as much as possible.  We will pay for your lunch or supper. Please think of volunteering for this event as our Edmonton Area facilities benefit quite a bit from the money raised at these casinos.  If you have any questions Sandy can be may be reached at 780-990-2178 or


GIRLS AWARDS – Application Deadline July 1, 2018

 We are currently accepting nominations for girls awards to be presented at this year’s Girls Awards in the fall.  There are four award that girl members are eligible for: Edmonton Area Girls’ Service Award, Gold Thanks Pin, Fortitude Award and Valour Award.  Visit the Handy Awards Guide on the Alberta Council’s website for more details. application


In preparation for the Girls Awards, please submit to area any Guides’ names who earned the Lady Baden Powell award and any Pathfinders earning their Canada Cord by June 30, 2018.  The Girls Awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018…more details will follow.



It is a requirement of our camp rental agreement for all groups that at least one person (who will be at the camp) has attended an orientation session within the last 5 years. During the session, participants tour all the sites at the facility and are shown various emergency and maintenance procedures relating to buildings and equipment. Cooks (kitchen staff) are required to have an orientation as well if you are renting either Spruce Wing or Poplar Wing.

With the renovations done this summer at Redwood House, it is highly recommended that anyone booking this facility retake the orientation. Orientations start at 3PM. Please meet at Redwood House and dress for the weather. Although there is no charge to attend the orientation you must pre-register. Email

Our sincere condolences to the McFall family on the recent passing of Betty McFall.  A segment of her obituary is listed below:

July 19, 1922 – May 21, 2018

Elizabeth (Betty) McFall passed away May 21, 2018.  ………………  Betty will be fondly remembered for her volunteer contributions, generosity of spirit & love of nature & animals. Betty was blessed with many years of good health during which she enjoyed a wide circle of friends. A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday June 8, 2018 at 10 am at Parkview Community League, 9135 – 146 Street, Edmonton, AB.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to:  Alberta Scholarship Fund, Alberta Council, Girl Guides of Canada (in Memoriam of Elizabeth McFall), 11055 – 107 St. NW, Edmonton, AB T5H 2Z6. – OR – Gray House Guild c/o Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre, (in memoriam of Elizabeth McFall, for Recreation Dept), 5005-28 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB, T6L 7G1. We love getting pictures of Edmonton Area Members in action! Now we’ve made it easier than ever to send us pictures using your Dropbox account. Just send your folder link to, and confirm that all girls have an IR.1 indicating yes and your photos will be included at the Area Dinner slide show, on the Edmonton Area website, or even in Gofer Tales!



Area office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.



There is a secure mailbox located at the back entrance of Alberta Girl Guide House.  You can put your paperwork, etc. in the slot and it will be picked up the next business day. Please ensure your item(s) are in an envelope with Edmonton Area noted on the front (there are no envelopes provided at the mailbox). Also, it takes letter size only; do not attempt to put binders or other large items in - they will not fit!
