Welcome to Gofer Express!!

This is a bi-weekly information update for all adult members in Edmonton who have an email address in iMIS. If you know Guiders who do not have email access, please pass this information along.

Next year’s Hike for Plenty date had previously been communicated as Saturday, March 23rd, 2019.  We have changed it to Saturday, April 6th, 2019 to avoid the first weekend of Spring Break for Edmonton Public and Catholic School Boards.  It was felt that holding the event during Spring Break could negatively impact our overall success of this key service project with the Edmonton Food Bank.  Please make this date change on your yearly calendars.  Thank you for your support of this change.

OIL KINGS TICKETS - Tuesday, January 1st, 2019

Once again, Edmonton Area Girl Guides, will be holding an Edmonton Oil Kings Day on Tuesday, January 1st, 2019 at 2pm.  The Edmonton Oil Kings will be playing the Vancouver Giants and it’s always a fun afternoon.  Deadline to order your tickets is November 30th (DCs to advise Edmonton Area your total order on that day).  Tickets are $22 per person; family members are welcomed.  All youth and adult members attending will receive a custom crest.  ticket order form

Crests are a huge part of Guiding life.  We mark major events and adventures with a crest which is then sewn onto a camp blanket or poncho forever reminding us of the places we’ve been, accomplishments we have achieved, and friendships we created on the way.  The Edmonton Area crest needs a refresh and we are extending the opportunity to all girl members from Sparks to Rangers to submit their ideas for a new crest!.  Click here for the official form and please submit to Hazel by December 1, 2018.  We encourage members to share their design on social media and use the hashtags #newareacrest #ggcyeg.

This year’s Spark Friendship camp is a Princess theme and will be held January 25-27th, 2019 at Tangletrees.  To avoid disappointment, please register early.  Registration form

This year’s Brownie Friendship camp is a Harry Potter theme and in response to overwhelming interest last year, there will be TWO camps offered: Sunday, March 24th -Tuesday, March 26th OR Thursday, March 28th - Saturday, March 30th at Tangletrees (both are during Spring Break).  Registration Form

GUIDE FRIENDSHIP CAMP - request for help

We have a Responsible Guider confirmed for this camp, being held February 15-17, 2019.  We are still looking for Guiders to help with this camp.  If you are interested, please contact Candace at

We are still looking for a Responsible Guider to take the lead on the Pathfinder/Ranger friendship camp being held March 1-3rd, 2019.  There are some Guiders who are willing to help but without a RG, this camp will not move forward.  Please consider this opportunity and email Courtney if you are interested.

A friendly reminder to Unit Guiders to ensure parents in your unit know how to communicate with you including your real name and email/phone number.  Edmonton Area office is receiving a surprising number of emails and calls from parents who do not know the name of their daughter’s leaders, only that they are Diamond or Brown Owl.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The Public Relations Committee is looking for youth members with Social Media savvy to help promote and celebrate Guiding in their own Districts. Rangers and Pathfinders who are interested in taking pictures at events and posting on Instagram primarily, but other platforms as well, are invited to apply. We are hoping for at minimum one girl per district and are open to having two girls share the post. Please encourage interested girls to email Elaun

Reminder to please post upcoming cookie sales events on the national website's cookie finder map. It is amazing how many people actually use this to track down where they may buy our delicious cookies. Click on "Add Cookie Event" to get started. Note: you will need your Unit iMIS number and address of the location you will be selling cookies at so be prepared. The website also requires a minimum two business days to upload your details  - don't delay - the sooner the better!
