Welcome to Gofer Express!!

This is a bi-weekly information update for all adult members in Edmonton who have an email address in iMIS. If you know Guiders who do not have email access, please pass this information along.

Edmonton Area Girl Guides has been invited to participate in the Butterdome ceremony marching in the parade of organizations that happens at the beginning and the end of the service, around the track of the Butterdome. During the service, members will sit in designated seating together in the bleachers. Participants need to meet at the back southwest corner of the Butterdome no later than 9:15am. (You can look for me: I'll be in "dress blues", and have my Guide Dog with me.) The service is usually over by about 11:15am. A parent for each girl participating must stay for the service, up in the stands. It would be helpful if that parent could also hold onto any jackets, etc. for the girl, so that there isn't a large pile of jackets left on the floor once we've started marching. Girls: Please wear your very best Guiding Uniform.

Any Adult Members who are coming and have access to flags, it would be great if you could bring them: Canada Flag; Canadian Guiding Flag; World Flag; Brownie Flag; Spark Flag. We have 3 flag stands (each holds a single flag). If you are bringing flags, please email so that we don't have multiples, and can try to obtain any that no one seems to have.

MEC CLUB NIGHT: Tuesday, November 13th 5-9pm

Edmonton Area Girl Guides Camping Committee has confirmed November 13th as our organization’s club night.  Members simply check-in with the MEC staff, give their name and say you are with Edmonton Area Girl Guides.  All members will receive a club night card entitling them to a 10% discount on all regular priced merchandise including bikes, skis and boats.  You can visit either location: MEC Downtown (11904 - 104 Avenue or 1624 - 99 Street - South Edmonton Common).  Due to vendor agreements, Blundstone, Birkenstock and Glerups are exempt from the discount as well as products on clearance or products that get a discount from packages.  This is an excellent time to stock up on Christmas gifts for the campers in your life!

GREY CUP PARADE - Saturday, November 24th

Do you want to be part of the Grey Cup Parade?  Edmonton Area Girl Guides has been invited to participate in this year’s parade.  We can have 200 Girl Guide members join in the fun.  All participants will be required to meet at Norquest College at 9:30am and the parade runs from 12:00pm - 1:30pm.  The parade route runs down Jasper Avenue from 108 Street to 101 Street.  You will then turn north on 101 Street to 103 Avenue and walk west to 105th Street.  There will be approximately 2KM of walking involved.

Due to the limited spots, all districts are being given 20 spots for girls.  If a district does not have 20 people wanting to participate, the extra spots will be shared with other districts.  This is to ensure equal representation by each district.  District commissioners are collecting the names of their group and will forward to area by November 7, 2018.  More information available here Grey Cup Parade.    For more information, please email Leanne at

OIL KINGS TICKETS - Tuesday, January 1st, 2019

Once again, Edmonton Area Girl Guides, will be holding an Edmonton Oil Kings Day on Tuesday, January 1st, 2019 at 2 pm.  The Edmonton Oil Kings will be playing the Calgary Hitmen and it’s always a fun afternoon.  Deadline to order your tickets is November 30th (DCs to advise Edmonton Area your total order on that day).  Tickets are $22 per person; family members are welcomed.  All youth and adult members attending will receive a custom crest.  Ticket form is attached here order form.

Crests are a huge part of Guiding life.  We mark major events and adventures with a crest which is then sewn onto a camp blanket or poncho forever reminding us of the places we’ve been, accomplishments we have achieved, and friendships we created on the way.  The Edmonton Area crest needs a refresh and we are extending the opportunity to all girl members from Sparks to Rangers to submit their ideas for a new crest!.  Click here for the official form and please submit to Hazel by December 1, 2018.  We encourage members to share their design on social media and use the hashtags #newareacrest #ggcyeg.

A friendly reminder to Unit Guiders to ensure parents in your unit know how to communicate with you including your real name and email/phone number.  Edmonton Area office is receiving a surprising number of emails and calls from parents who do not know the name of their daughter’s leaders, only that they are Diamond or Brown Owl.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Edmonton Area has been contacted by a Pathfinder leader from Gabriola Island, BC looking for a group who would be interested in meeting up with their travel group.  They will be in Edmonton from late March 25-early March 29th.  If you are interested, please contact their leader, Petra, directly at

The Public Relations Committee is looking for youth members with Social Media savvy to help promote and celebrate Guiding in their own Districts. Rangers and Pathfinders who are interested in taking pictures at events and posting on Instagram primarily, but other platforms as well, are invited to apply. We are hoping for at minimum one girl per district and are open to having two girls share the post. Please encourage interested girls to email Elaun

Reminder to please post upcoming cookie sales events on the national website's cookie finder map. It is amazing how many people actually use this to track down where they may buy our delicious cookies. Click on "Add Cookie Event" to get started. Note: you will need your Unit iMIS number and address of the location you will be selling cookies at so be prepared. The website also requires a minimum two business days to upload your details  - don't delay - the sooner the better!
